Alexander Ford was 72 years old when he committed suicide on April 4, 1980 in Naples, Florida. The film is an attempt to answer the question of why this happened. Alexander Ford is told about Alexander Ford by people who knew him privately and professionally, his closest relatives and distant acquaintances: His wife Elinor, daughters Konstancja and Justyna, son Roman, as well as Stanisław Różewicz, Jerzy Stefan Stawiński, Kazimierz Kutz, Zygmunt Król, Andrzej Wajda, Kazimierz Koźniewski, Beata Tyszkiewicz, Bella Bibrowska, Mieczysław Jahoda, Jerzy Płażewski, Krzysztof Teodor Toeplitz, Edward Zajicek, Jerzy Kawalerowicz, Emil Karewicz and Mieczysław Kalenik.
